Watch 8K VR180 on PC VR
Playing from a PC lets your graphics card decode the video and keeps files on a large drive. It works with SteamVR headsets and with Quest over Link, Air Link or Virtual Desktop.
Step by step
Download on your PC
Open your private link in a desktop browser and save the MP4 to a drive with enough free space.
Install a PC VR player
DeoVR, Skybox VR Player and HereSphere are available on Steam. Some players are paid; check the store page for supported headsets.
Connect your headset
Start SteamVR with your Valve Index or HTC Vive, or connect a Quest with Link (cable), Air Link or Virtual Desktop.
Open the file in the player
Browse to the folder with your MP4 from inside the player and open it.
Choose 180° side by side
If the picture looks doubled or flat, set the format to 180° 3D side by side (SBS, left-right).
Tips
8K 60 fps HEVC needs hardware HEVC decoding, so a recent graphics card helps. If playback stutters, update your graphics drivers and check the player's decoder settings.
Some players use Windows' own HEVC support. If a player can't open the file, check that HEVC video support is installed, or try another player.
For wireless play (Air Link, Virtual Desktop), use 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi and connect the PC to the router with a cable.
Frequently asked questions
Why play from a PC instead of the headset?
A PC can decode 8K more easily than older standalone headsets, and you can keep a large library on its drive. Newer standalone headsets often play the files well without one.
Do I need SteamVR?
Most PC VR players run through SteamVR or another OpenXR runtime. Check the player's store page for the headsets it supports.
